About This Blog

This blog is about several different remedies that I have personally tried and they have worked for me.
Now I cannot say if they will work the same for you, all I can do is suggest these home remedies.
I mention in my blog about Apple Cider Vinegar which this vinegar does cure a lot of ailments and is well know around the web for working on a variety of things.

So if you are looking for alternative home remedies for different ailments I hope you find these posts informative, that they work for you to. But please check with a doctor first before trying anything new. I wouldn't want anything to interfere with medicines you are currently taking.

To anyone that is skeptical of these remedies, I ask you to try them out before judging them. The idea of writing this blog came from my nephew Cody , I was always giving him advice on cures to try for different ailments.
So here I am writing about different ones I know that work , I will be trying out more home remedies as I find them and reporting them to this blog.

I hope you find this post informative, It was really fun to write about remedies you use for these problems, and get to share them with others.

Acid Relex Relief

 Acid Reflex Relief

What is Acid Reflex? It's a condition were (food or liquid) leak backwards from the stomach into the esophagus.

Now I am not a doctor,or a writer for that matter, and you have to love that spell checker.
But if you are anything like me you are very skeptical about all the medicine that doctor's prescribe to you.
I search and search for another method rather than taking a medication I may not be able to stop taking.

And if the doctor prescribes something to me I analyze it, and look for an alternative and after reading all the possible side effect it could cause.I try and find a better solution.
Recently I was told to take acid reflex medicine, and I was given a prescription for prilosec otc ( omeprazole magnesium delayed-release tablets 20.6 mg/acid reducer). This is a well known product to relieve frequent heartburn! Prilosec otc is to be used once a day ( every 24hours) ,every day for 14 days.

Inactive ingredients glyceryl monostearate, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hypromellose, ironoxide, magnesium stearate, methacrylic acid copolymer, microcrystalline cellulose. paraffin, polyethylene glycol 6000, polysorbate 80, polyvinylpyrrolididone, sodium stearyl fumarate, starch, sucrose, talc, titanium dioxide, triethyl citrate.

OK that is just the ingredients so I was reluctantly, I didn't want to take it.
No reasons just wasn't excited about having to take something every day to relieve my acid reflex problem.

So here is some of my remedies that I have come up with. And you don't have to take them every day unless you have symptoms.

"Now for some people these may or may not be your answer, but for me they worked.
So I wanted to share them with you".

1) Organic raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar. I used Bragg Organic Raw- Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar With The Mother

( Ingredients certified organic, raw apple cider vinegar and purified water.diluted to 5% acidity).
Now those sounded like good ingredients without all the chemical effects. and it worked great for me. But you can use any other organic raw unfiltered one you want. this will calm down your acid reflex with in a few minutes and in a few days you should notice a big difference. " well it did for me any ways." How to use the vinegar take 2 tsp in a 8 oz glass of water. But if you don't like the taste of vinegar you could add some honey to it. ( ooo ya it's gluten-free to for people who have a hard time with gluten).

2) Mustard
(Ingredients water,distilled vinegar,mustard seed,salt and turmeric)
That's right I said mustard 1 tsp of mustard in an 8 oz glass of water will help ease acid reflex ( Bonus a tsp. of mustard is great for charlie horses). " without that ache cramp feeling the next day. within 5 minutes".

 3) I'm sure everyone has heard of this kitchen favorite (Baking Soda )
( Ingredients sodium bicarbonate)
Baking soda states right on the box that it is good for heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach and upset stomach due to these symptoms. take a 1/2 tsp. of baking soda in a( 1/2 cup) 4oz glass of water will ease up acid reflex.

4) You will want to elevated your bed and sleep on your left side at night. There is studies suggesting this theory. I for one have had my bed slightly elevated and it does help all I did was place a few extra pillows under the mattress. Also you don't want to sleep on your back that is the worse thing you could do.The acid just backs up and makes you feel worse.

5) You could take a 1 tsp of olive oil"
 ( Ingredients olive oil)
Now when I did this it was pretty (gross) but it works to coat your esophagus and you will feel better.

But as you can see I tried this last. The one that worked the best for me was the Apple cider.
Now I tried regular out of the store apple cider." for just curiosity" But truthfully it wasn't the same as the organic as far as really working. But as you can clearly see why my choices were one of these 4 rather then the Prilosec otc. All the ingredients of the last 4 items don't even come close as to what is in the prescription brand Prilosec. Not to mention the 4 natural items are not expensive.

And the organic vinegar goes for about $3.99 for a 16 fl oz. and it last a long time.( You can find Organic Apple Cider Vinegar locally in most health food store.)

Well I really hope this helps you, as it helped me out.
I will post more home remedies as I find them and I always try them out first before posting online.
"I don't believe in saying anything I don't believe is true".

Bonus Apple cider vinegar also removes warts. ( for me it did) All I did was take a cotton ball soaked in vinegar and (wart was on finger) wrap cotton ball around finger and secured with a band-aid. I did this for 3 consecutive days and wart was gone. You will have to keep replacing new vinegar soaked band-aids daily, but it beats getting an over counter remedy if you don't have to.

Also I want to tell you I have tried other myths they include.
Burying raw hamburg in back yard (myth)

banana peel ( may work some not enough though) raw potato ( yes the acid eats it away but it comes back).

And last but not least  sea salt ( coarse sea salt applied straight to wart and secured with band-aid) this works and you can see it eating away at your wart but takes a long time to do).

Fleas

Let's talk Fleas!

Just what are these pesky fleas?  Fleas are an insects, they are wingless, with mouth parts adapted for piercing skin and sucking blood.

There are several things you can do to try and rid your house of these pesky fleas .Someone told me once that if you put a bowl of dish liquid under a night light it will attract the fleas and they will jump in it and die ( False)
" This method does not work" well it didn't for me.

First things first, you want to bath the animal in dish liquid ( I've heard of using may brands like dawn, joy ect.).
Truth is any dish liquid will work all you have to do is lather up your pet with the dish liquid and leave it on them for at least 5 minutes ( this will suffocate the fleas on your animal) then rinse off pet making sure not to get in their eye it will irritate them.) Now I've heard this alone will not do it? there are eggs also. So you want to get a good flea comb and after bathing, comb out your pet really good with a flea comb. Repeat this process as needed.

Second thing to do is if you have carpets you want to sprinkle any one of these items on carpet ( Borax,Tide, or plain old salt mixed with baking soda)leave on your carpet for at least 2 hours this will also suffocate the fleas in carpet. "Note make sure carpet is not damp or you will have white residue left over on carpet"

Third and last thing pet bedding this I have used rubbing alcohol and purchased a spray bottle. But other people say that vinegar has worked mixed with water. So the choice is really yours as to what you may like better. " Vinegar also acts a room freshener after the initiation smell disappears". Just spray the bedding with mixture of your choice and let it dry. {Note: Alcohol is used full strength}

I Really hope this information has been helpful to you.

How To Ease A Sore Muscle

How to ease up sore joint muscles..

"Hmmmm" well one night I was reading online about what athletes do to ease a sore joint or injury. And much to my surprise there it was the answer I was looking for.
Now this may sound weird but I have tried this method, and it really worked and my joint in thumb felt great. (So here it is) you will need 5 items, they are as follows caster oil, cheese cloth (or I used) gauze cloth, plastic wrap and a heating pad.OK those are the essentials, now I will tell you how to do it.

1) Heat some caster oil in a pan or in the microwave until warm but not scalding.

2) Cut enough gauze to be wrapped around joint then soak the gauze with the warmed caster oil.

3) Wrap the soaked cloth around your sore joint or muscle.

4) cut a piece of plastic wrap off and wrap it around the gauze that you just placed on sore joint to keep joint warm.

5) Place the heating pad on low and place over the plastic wrap and keep this warm for 15 minutes.

That is it!
Now you have to do this for a week or so till joint feels better. "But I will tell you this the first time I did this, after the 15 minutes OOOO wow my thumb felt great! and it was very moveable" I hope this helps you out as it did for me. Also vitamin B12 is great for your joints and also to give you energy. ( but that's just my opinion). More postings coming soon!

How I Quit Smoking

Hi Everyone!
I had been smoking since I was 14 years old,I say had because I have been smoke free for 3 months now, and let me tell you every time I tried to quit it was not an easy task.

When I was say in my 20's I tried to quit, Why? Because I was smoking generic cigarettes and I couldn't breath. So needless to say I stopped that day. ( for about a year) and guess what? I went back. (stupid) I know.

And then In my 40's I tried again, well this time I tried it was way more difficult because(I felt so sick), I couldn't take all the nausea I was getting.( I didn't try any method to help me quit back then).

Now at least 3  years ago they came out with the "e-cigarettes"
( what are E-cigarettes? E-Cigarette looks, feels and smokes just like a real cigarette, but has none of the harmful substances found in real cigarettes. It emits a virtually odorless vapor that simulates actual smoke, but dissipates quickly in the air and It's  battery operated "it is a cigarette alternative".)

And well  I was at our county fair and there was a vendor the for these cigarettes and just for a $125.00 I was going to quit smoking. " I thought wow what an idea you smoke vapor how cool". Little did I know at the time that you had to still buy the cartridges for these and that would be ok because I would be tar free. ( Yaaaa!)

But yet again I fell to the old mighty cigarette, as the e-cigarette did not taste quite the same as my real cigarette. Then my doctor prescribed Chantix for me, well this all sounded fine and dandy but I'm really skeptical about what I take.
So after reading the side effects I decided not to take it.
"Side effects included Nausea,Headaches,Vomiting,Gas,Constipation,Trouble sleeping,Unusual dreams,or change in taste may occur". Now this is only the first sentence on list of side effects, to me this meant  I just wasted $35.00 in prescription fees. ( now don't get me wrong chantix works for a lot of people, it just wasn't for me).

So here I am 5 years later I went to Florida and came home, my doctor had kept hounding me to quit smoking, and (yes I knew for years how bad it was for me). But it's not as easy as they make it sound. (Doctor: just quit smoking) " Me: OK when I get around to it", this was basically it no one can tell you to quit, you have to want to.
That's the biggy how big was the Want to,truthfully it wasn't as big for me at the time, I enjoyed smoking.

But after Florida I said OK it's time. I went to doctors said OK if you want me to quit smoking I would like a prescription for the Nicotine patch, so he wrote one. And to my amazement my insurance company actually paid for the nicotine patch  "WOW" . He wrote me a script for stage 2 to start, then after so many patches I think 48 patches, then I was to go to stage 1 (one is a weaker patch).

And here's what happened there. I did the patch for I'd say 4 days (guessing here) but they made me really dizzy. " I didn't know this at time but that means they are to strong for you".

So by the 4th day I stopped putting patch on , and I was semi OK but still having some cravings. Then I remembered all of those e-cigarettes I bought, and they were just sitting in desk collecting dust.

"So I decided to charge that baby up(e-cigarette) and give it a whirl" and much to my amazement it was OK.
I was smoking again(Yaaaaa!) but it was just vapor. (No harmful chemicals)
'Now of course there was a weight gain here "guessing about 20lbs" but think of it this way ( I'm preserving my lungs, adding years to my life) so I gain a few pounds I'll be able to take it off later.

So now it's later "Ugh" it has been 4 months since I have quit smoking and yes this method of the patch and then e-cigarettes does work.

It's time to work on the weight loss but let me tell you this "I think that with the sense of still smoking, (with the e-cigarette) I'm not grabbing for something to stick in mouth any more". That sensation has gone away.
Which means I am ready to start losing weight again.

I want you to know though after not smoking for a while, be prepared for your sense of smell to come back.
" I can tell when someone else smokes "I can smell it one them, (let me tell you it's not a good smell) and to think I smelled the same way. "YIKES" but they say x-smokers are the worse critics, and I am actually
starting to believe that.

I really think I have this beat this time, I am still smoking the e-cigarettes mind you, but I am not smoking the real ones ( which e-cigarettes are a lot less money to buy). I will keep posting as the months go on, hopefully  I can help at least one person with my method .

OK here I am this is month 4 and still no smoking with this method of the e-cigarettes, this was by far the easiest way to quit. I didn't feel sick all day long from not smoking as I did in the past. For anyone out there that really would like to quit smoking, try this method and see if it helps you out.

SO, here is an update on the non- smoking. It is now January 2012 and I am happy to say that I am still smoke free "YA!" it has been difficult I will not lie, and the weight gain you get is very difficult to take off after wards. But I am starting to feel a lot better since I quit, not to mention the money I am saving. I don't know about were you are but here the cigarettes were almost $9.00 a pack, multiply that by 7 and I was spending $63.00 a week to blow smoke. That sounds a little ridiculous but it is true, I could have spent that money on a lot of other things.

Best of luck, and I would like hearing from you if you try this method to see if it worked for you also.

Dandruff

Dandruff

Just what is dandruff? Dandruff is a common, inflammatory skin condition that causes flaky, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas such as the scalp or inside the ear. It can occur with or without reddened skin.

If you've suffered with dandruff and have been using shampoo, that seems to dry out your hair then this may be the remedy for you. We are talking about Apple Cider Vinegar.

I know what your thinking vinegar again? (laughing) yes vinegar! It has many benefits for you besides acid reflex. "So maybe you want to stock your house with it".

All you have to do is this before you wash your hair pour a 1/4 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar over your hair ( make sure not to get in eyes it will burn) all over scalp.

Let it sit in your scalp for a few minutes then wash hair with normal shampoo, if you do this at least once a week you will notice a difference and save on dandruff shampoo." It will also save you some money dandruff shampoo about $5.00 vs vinegar at $3.99".

Bonus: Take 2 tablespoons of baking soda in a cup of warm water and stir to dissolve, then pour over hair right before shampooing this will take all of the hair spray and moose/gel out of your hair. ( you will save here on clarifying shampoo this way).

NOTE: "As I state in my other posts this will work for some people and not for others it's all trial and error".

Another tip for vinegar/s

White Vinegar is good for making drains smell good and cleaning your coffee pot and a whole lot more.

I will list more to this post on the benefits of vinegar/s.

Everything listed in my posts I have tried and they have worked for me, but I cannot guarantee they will work for you. Just making suggestions here to an alternative method.

Leg Cramps and Charlie Horses

Leg cramps or charlie horse

OK, just what are leg cramps and charlie horse/s and why do they happen? A muscle cramp is a sudden, uncontrolled contraction of a muscle. No one really knows why the muscle cramps it is unknown.

Now I don't know about you, but when I get a charlie horse or cramp in my leg it hurts.
And then after you work it out of your leg ( ooo man the pain walking on it the next day).
Well here is a little tidbit" Mustard" that will help you, and in a few minutes your charlie horse will be gone, and no pain the next day.

Now I know this is not going to sound appealing to do, and so many people I've told this method to would rather suffer in pain I guess.

But this really helps tremendously "ready for this" it's Mustard. ( any kind of mustard yellow, brown, spicy ect.)That's right people just by eating 1tsp. of mustard your leg cramp or charlie horse will ease up.

And here is the best part " there is no ache the next day" the muscle relaxes almost immediately ( now this works for a lot of people, but for some it may not).

And if you'd like to keep those charlie horses away try eating a banana a day.
Banana's are a good source of potassium and a lot of people don't get enough.

Also make sure you are "drinking plenty of water a day".

Dry Cracked Hands

Dry and cracked hands

Do you have dry or cracked hands? As the cold weather approaches a lot of people find that their hands become really dry and start to crack. This method I use puts a jump start on the healing process so that your hands don't hurt as much.

Vaseline Intensive Care  this is what I use to jump start the healing process when hands get to dry.

What you will need is a jar of Vaseline and an old pair of socks or a pair of gloves.

Step 1   Generously spread Vaseline all over your hands at night time before bed.

Step 2  Place gloves or socks over hands, go to bed with them on.

Take the gloves/socks off hands in the morning and you will see that all the Vaseline has absorbed into your skin making your hands soft again.

Now that your hands are softer and feel better you can continue to keep them that way with applying a lotion daily to them.

Sinuses

Sinuses

What are sinuses? Everyone has 4 sinuses the Frontal sinus, Ethmoid sinuses, Maxillary sinus and the Sphenoid sinus.

So this information is for any one who suffers from allergies, and doesn't want to take over counter medicines.

There is a remedy!
.
There are 2 vitamins that you can now take, and in a minute I will tell you what they are.

But first let me ask you this are you tired of all the runny noses, itchy and water eyes that are associated with allergies? Well I know I was until I started these vitamins.

I  know the expenses associated with over the counter medicines, I was currently taking claritin (generic name Loratadine) and well that worked really good I was tired of paying high prices for this medicine, just to get some relief of your allergies. Plus as the seasons change so do the prices of allergy medicines.

So here are the vitamins you can take ( advice check with doctor first before taking anything new as it may interact with prescription medicines you are taking.)This is very important because you never know if a vitamin will interact with a prescription drug.

1) Pantothenic Acid     500mg.Pantothenic Acid also known as B5 ( found in any vitamin isle of store) Take one of these in the morning.
This vitamin is converted in our bodies to co enzyme A, which is involved in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins, and the synthesis of hormones, bile, and hemoglobin. Pantothenic acid is utilized in nerve transmission. Pantothenic acid supports the immune system. So as you can see here it supports your immune system.

2) Citrus Bioflavanoids 1000mg ( also found in any vitamin isle in store)Take this one at night time before bed.
Citrus Bioflavonoids comprise a group of water-soluble plant pigments found in foods such as oranges and lemons, and are partly responsible for giving these foods their colorful look.
They are believed to enhance the absorption and utilization of Vitamin C. In addition, bioflavonoids possess antioxidant properties that help fight cell-damaging free radicals in the body.

This is all you need to do, and in a few days you should feel relief from sinus problems.

I hope this information helps you, feel free to leave a response if any of my remedies has helped you.

Common Cold

Common Cold

Now everyone knows how annoying the onsite of a common cold is and usually runs it's course in about 7 to 10 days. But I have been cutting that time in half by about 3 days." This doesn't work for everyone it's just something you may want to try out".
Make sure you have plenty of Kleenex on hand, and drink a lot of water. A body needs at least 8-8oz. glasses of water per day to stay hydrated. (so drink up)

Granted you will still have to go threw the runny nose, sore throat, and then congestion and cough (sorry about that but a cold is a cold and needs to run it's course) but by the 3rd day you should feel a lot better.

1) Start taking vitamin C on the onsite of the runny nose and threw out the cold process. This can be purchased at any place that sells vitamins all you need is to take 1 500mg capsule a day.

2) Drink lots of tea with honey to ease sore throat issues. ( Ginger tea is good for colds) also if you are over the age of 21 you could try ginger brandy in a hot cup of tea but be prepared to go right to bed this might knock you out.

3) Vicks Vapor Rub  rub this on your chest and cover it up with a t-shirt, do this for at least 3 nights.
I know we have all heard of Vicks especially as kids our mothers used to use this on us to help us breath at night when our noses were all stuffed up. Well it's great for that!

( Note: Do not go outside with the vicks on your chest, wash it off before going outside).

The vicks will make you breath easier the first night with your nose stuffing up, and then the cold will surface to your chest and the coughing and sore throat will start.  This is the path most colds take no one has been able to come up with a way to completely stop the course of a cold. but for me this method will have you feeling better in 3 days.

4) Get plenty of "Rest" this is the most important part. The reasoning behind this is who really wants to go out when they have a runny nose, they are tired from coughing and they just feel run down. I know sometimes it is beyond our control that we have to go out. There's work, bills and responsibilities but when you finally get home from a long day find time to go to bed early and rest.

I hope this works for you as it does for my family.

Stay tuned for more home remedies!
